Artificial Design is the design studio of Shannon E. Thomas.

Artificial Design is focused on bringing experiences to life through product, service, and process design.

Shannon's early design projects revolved around social experiences – a social network for pets and their humans with Purina, the music-based social network for Microsoft Zune, and a casual MMO at Big Fish Games.

She helped to create a wedding registry experience full of celebration for Target, and a home-buying brand and experience targeted at a more urban market for Weyerhaeuser.

With some of her favorite people, Shannon designed apps that define larger ecosystems for Samsung and 3D Systems, and created the reference app that established the design system for the Xbox developer SDK.

Shannon worked with Philips AVENT to create connected apps supporting the healthy development of babies and with Philips Sonicare to create the experience around a tele-dentistry service. She also worked with TOPIC to develop a connected tool to increase operating room efficiency.

Shannon has worked closely with startups like VanMoof to design connected solutions for their products and Asellion to bring traditional B2B processes into the digital realm.

Beyond user experience, Shannon imagined possible futures with Intel and defined processes for companies like Deutsche Bahn.

Shannon ran a design agency for five years, where she built a team, managed clients, planned projects, and all about running a company in a foreign land.

When there’s a gap in client work, Shannon commits herself to the growth of others, mentoring and creating side projects like to [icon] that provide a place for designers to explore and grow.
